Mark Trahant of the Seattle P-I asked him a question of Native American tribal sovereignty which prompted Bush to say (paraphrasing) that tribes are sovereign and America's government is sovereign, and it's important for each to recognize their (BUSHISM ALERT) "Sovereigninity."
UPDATE: The White House web site clarifies:
"Tribal sovereignty means that, it's sovereign. You're a -- you've been given sovereignty, and you're viewed as a sovereign entity. And, therefore, the relationship between the federal government and tribes is one between sovereign entities."Oh. I heard something much different, but I'm wrong again.
Roland Martin is challenging him on his pre-Q&A talk about how 8 million Afghans have registered to exercise their "God-given" right to vote, but 2 million voters in the United States - half of them black - had their votes discounted in the 2000 election. The audience erupted in cheers when he asked if Bush would make voters' rights a constitutional amendment. Bush said he'd consider it. Guess gay marriage is more important.
I notice here that he's fluent on talking about evil in the Middle East and does not hesitate when he's talking about how terra'sts like to cut off heads and hands. But when he's trying to talk about domestic and social issues, he's way over his head and the rumblin' bumblin' and stumblin' kicks in. And that smirk never leaves his face, no matter what he's talking about.
I can't help it. He still has that appearance of when you look into his eyes, you see the back of his head.
