Random Thoughts On Back-To-The-Grind Day

Wow, it's great to be home. Mom's in her new place a mile away and we're all safe and sound. It was the very definition of "not a sprint, but a marathon." Exhaustion doesn't even begin to describe the experience, but it's done. But the mind is still reeling with all that's going on.

CNN's been wall-to-wall Tyco mistrial with a quick interruption for the non-specific terror threats against non-specific transportation venues during a non-specific time this summer. But that threat warning wasn't meant for the general public. Gee, thanks. You almost scared America into voting for Bush again.

Another oopsie-daisy as the 9-11 Panel was horrified to find that the Bush administration withheld about 75% of Clinton's files regarding al Qaeda. The White House claims an oversight. Goddamn oversights. Oversights are no longer an option, jerks. Not when it comes to something this important. Crack the whip on these stonewallers, panel.

Oh joy supreme. Over double the number of jobs were created than anticipated in March, and Bush is talking it up like the second coming. It's a nice bump but still a long way to go to make up for the 2.2 million jobs lost under Bush. Good timing for those new jobs. The 2,500 employees of Gateway who will be let go this month will need 'em. The jobless rate also grew by 1/10th of a percentage point. Go figure.

It's a pleasure to be able to turn on the radio here in "Lefty Liberal Hollywood" and actually hear a station with a point of view left of Genghis Khan. KBLA (a former biz news station, hence the name) is carrying the Air America network. On a dial filled with LimbaugHannityHandeldereilly (they're all just running together at this point), it's great to hear all the horrific behavior of Bush and Company we've been yelling about for the last three years actually coming out of my car speakers. Granted, 1580 AM is radio's dirt road, but it's a start...and if it causes even the slightest bump, the radio industry - really desperate to find the next new thing even if it has been right under their nose all along - will unilaterally see it as a major success and will add like-minded programming to their roster. Stay tuned.

Finally, HUGE kudos to MoveOn.org. They're been flooding CNN this morning with their spots declaring Bush a failure on terrorism. A very effective commercial - and the guy who does the voiceover is a friend of mine, so congrats to him in finding work in a tough time.

Back to work. Back to reality. Back to you guys. Fire away...
