Hmmmm...

This is interesting. While I read the NY Times' story on Kerry's unveiling of his economic plan, this little passage caught my eyes, ears and thumbs...

[Kerry] also pointed out that he has been working with Senator John McCain, Republican of Arizona, on legislation that would "end corporate welfare as we know it."

Their legislation would create a commission that would recommend budget cuts and submit them to Congress for a yes-or-no vote with no amendments to keep pet projects.

"Today, mining companies buy up public lands for $5 an acre," he said, using Vice President Dick Cheney as an example.

"Dick Cheney's old company Halliburton dodges taxes with offshore havens while it gets billions from no-bid government contracts," he said. "If I'm elected president, those days will come to an end."

He said that by closing some corporate tax loopholes "we can save tens of billions of dollars."

"John McCain can't get anyone in the Bush White House to listen to our proposal," he said. "If I'm president, John McCain will get the first pen when I sign this bill into law."
Okay, uh...damn!? I mean, McCain declared many months ago that he'd be working to get Bush re-elected, but recent weeks have been telling a much MUCH different story. McCain has been giving Kerry some nice props - even playfully saying he'd consider being Kerry's running mate (which he later almost reluctantly retracted). Now Kerry's returning the love.

Repeating: Hmmmm...
