Maybe The Strategy Is To Put The Panel To Sleep

Condi is going to kick off her testimony before the 9-11 commission with a 20-minute monologue defending the Bush administration. Think about this. Twenty minutes...DEFENDING the White House.

Kinda refreshing, isn't it? The jackasses who are the self-proclaimed experts at pre-emption are suddenly on the defensive, and their golden girl will need 20 minutes to plead her case before the first question is even asked. WARNING: The following passage contains flip-flops, so sensitive GOPers who are trying to paint Kerry with that brush might want to take a pass at reading it.

She's likely to stress the Administration's efforts to overthrow the Taliban before 9/11. She told TIME last month the Bush team was out not only to "arm the Northern Alliance in an important way but also to find and develop relationships with southern tribes so that you could get the Taliban where it hurts."

She is said to be galled by Clarke's critical comments because, say Rice associates, she went out of her way to keep the career aide in a top-tier position, against the advice of Administration officials who thought she should jettison someone so cozy with the Clinton national-security team.
Whoa. Wait. Her own associates are saying Condi wanted Clarke to stay? But Administration officials felt that taking the advice from a holdover from the Clinton administration was more a dangerous threat than...the Taliban?!? So getting rid of Clarke was more important to the administration?

One more question. What the f---?!?
