Not all the hosts are winners — we'd trade [Randi] Rhodes for San Francisco's Bernie Ward, the Texas populist Jim Hightower...Hey, take a paper towel and wipe that spit-out coffee off your monitor.
I don't know very much (as my fan mail attests), but you have to grant me this: I do know radio, having spent the better (or worse) part of my life burning a path to practically every city in America yelling at people on request lines for their horrendous taste in music. Having said that...
(ahem)
...JIM FRIGGIN' HIGHTOWER!?! Mr. Chew-N-Chat? Captain Milquetoast? Private First-Class Sleeping Pill? Please. Richard. You've done a hundred columns for Time. Stick to the movie reviews and stay away from radio. Never - NEVER - mention Jim Hightower in the same breath as Randi Rhodes or Bernie Ward (who I'm sure is making too great a living at KGO in SanFran to go national, but if not - America needs you, Bernie).
Jim Hightower is the epitome of what went wrong with liberal radio years ago. Good ideas delivered in a tiny meek little voice. Good for books, bad for radio.
