When you read stories like this which chronicle how Iraqis are just as angry at America as they are at al Qaeda, it finally begins to sink in how barbaric the whole "flypaper" strategy really is. The idea is to make a big presence in a place like Iraq in the hopes that it'll attract Muslim extremists and terrorists so we can fight 'em over there.
Make no mistake - a lot of wingnuts are big fans of this sick idea. Would I like them to attack us here instead? No. Would I like to NOT give them more and more and more reasons to do so? Bet your ass. Would I prefer to stop being attack-happy jackasses and stop alienating the rest of the world who were on our side on 9/12/01? No problem.
But they played the flypaper gambit. And Iraq is now truly enjoying the same things we enjoy in America - like terror threats and killings by al Qaeda.
Hope you understand if they're not thanking us profusely.
