Mail: It's Hard To Debate When Your Opponent Makes ZERO Sense

A couple of observations on yesterday's wingnut radio performances from the e-mail bag. Michael writes:

Missed you this weekend, glad to see you back!

I was listening to Rush yesterday and he was claiming that the Madrid bombings only show the hollowness of the liberals' arguments. If Iraq had nothing to do with terrorism, so he says, then we cannot conveniently claim that the bombing in Madrid is an outcome of our invasion. To admit that the Madrid bombing was terrorist-related, only proves the point that Iraq was a hotbed of terrorism.

What amazes me is that his 20,000,000 listeners didn't scratch their head at this one. In fact, Andrew Sullivan is pushing the same line.

But what would happen if we invaded a US-friendly Arab nation -- such as Qatar or Kuwait. Nobody believes that terrorism exists in these states. Yet, if we invaded and occupied these countries, one could expect a terrorist group like Al Qaida to retaliate for what the infidel Americans did to their Arab brethren.

On one hand, the wingnuts want to claim that all Arabs are in some sort of terrorism cabal -- they talk about the 'world-wide terror network' where every terrorist knows the secret handshake. Yet, when Madrid is bombed, the only possible culprits are pissed-off Iraqi terrorists. Talk about wanting to have it both ways.
And PK listened to Rush's Number One Son yesterday with something we KNEW was going to be asked eventually by these fenderheads...

Hannity floated the question (paraphrasing): Who do you think the terrorists want as their choice for president? Bush, who's diligently using all our resources to eradicate them, or a political flak who flips and flops and won't do anything without the UN's permission first?
So they've already begun talking up Kerry as the terrorists' choice.

This is the sort of discourse we're stuck with - Wingnut headcases putting forth arguments that are so far in foul territory, no rational human can wrap their heads around the sheer idiocy of the statements, and debate or refute them. What they've said here is so mind-numbingly dumb that your head spins trying to come up with a starting point of what they're wrong about.

Making no sense has become conventional wisdom in the world of the wingnut.
