Air America Radio: Where Art Thou?
I don't mean station clearance. That's still a needlessly slow process for the AAR decision-makers.
I'm talking about the biggest day for the Democrats since AAR hit the air, and the network's essentially going unmanned. Kerry picks Edwards as his running mate and between the vacationing Al Franken AND Randi Rhodes, Air America has seven consecutive hours of "Best of" programming. Today, when New York wants to hear what real New Yorkers have to say, WABC and WOR are dominating with live right-wing talk while WLIB is in reruns.
Why in the HELL isn't someone getting on the horn to get a warm body into the studio to field this huge story? There's no shortage of great hosts or hosts-to-be out there for this situation. Famous Amos, Don Waller, Cadillac Jack - all radio-ready liberals can be at the Air America studios in minutes. At the very least, get Laura Flanders in there. SOMEONE LIVE.
Instead, they and the rest of the city are sitting at home listening to old (three months is "old"?) AAR programming.
So...memo to Air America Radio: Learn a new word. FILL-IN. It would have come in REAL handy today. Otherwise, forget about ever being considered a real radio network.
