Keeping him. He'll be one "F--- Yourself" away from losing this deal.
Dumping him as Alf D'Amato suggests. That would be tantamount to the flip-flop label they're desperately trying to nail on Kerry. But D'Amato's two suggestions for veeps are worse.
Dumping him for John McCain. This one would be an enormous risk. As we've pointed out, McCain was all but given up as a Democrat a recently as three months ago by the most fervent of Bush supporters. The American Memory is short, but this is pushing it. Besides, if they want to avoid the flip-flop label, the DNC will be more than happy to screw that crap up by playing and feeding the video clips of the 2000 primaries. And since the press seems a little more willing to jump on those paradoxes these days, it wouldn't be in Bush's best interest.
Dumping him for Colin Powell. Where's that video of Powell holding up a big ol' pile of lies and horrible evidence of Iraq's WMDs in front of the U.N.? Oh, HERE it is! As long as this exists, Powell's career as a head of state is through. He knows it, and he can't be terribly happy about it.
Those are the choices. Mr. Cheney - if you can read those to your boss, then lean over and tell him he's f---ed, we'd appreciate it. Thanks.
