GOP Party Leaders Tout 'Bush Prosperity'Time out. Cue the kitty.
Awww, LOOKA THE KITTY! Okay. Where were we?
Republican Party leaders touted the advent of what they called a period of "Bush prosperity" Wednesday as their national gathering to promote President Bush and Vice President Cheney for a second term reconvened with a brief protest and scuffling on the convention floor.Kitty time.
Cheney is scheduled to address the convention Wednesday night after an introduction by his wife, Lynne Cheney, and a keynote speech by Sen. Zell Miller of Georgia, a conservative Democrat who supports the Republican ticket for reelection.
"These have been years of achievement, and we are eager for the work ahead," Cheney plans to say, according to excerpts of his speech released by convention organizers. "And in all that we do, we will never lost sight of the greatest challenge of our time: preserving the freedom and security of this nation against determined enemies."
Saying that America has reached one of its "defining moments," Cheney draws a sharp contrast between Bush and Democratic presidential candidate John F. Kerry.
The vice president will point to Bush's "demonstrated leadership and decisiveness" compared to the "confusion of conviction" shown by Kerry, the Associated Press quoted a Cheney spokeswoman as saying. The vice president also intends to discuss the importance of public schools, a vibrant economy and improved health care system, arguing that these things are not possible unless the nation is safe and secure, the agency reported.
Miller plans to level sharp criticism at his own party and its candidate in his speech, according to excerpts., and
"John Kerry wants to re-fight yesterday's war," Miller says in his prepared remarks.
"George Bush believes we have to fight today's war and be ready for tomorrow's challenges." Miller adds: "Right now the world just cannot afford an indecisive America. Faint-hearted self-indulgence will put at risk all we care about in this world. In this hour of danger, our president has had the courage to stand up. And this Democrat is proud to stand up with him."
Whoa. Even the damned blood pressure reducing cute kitty lost it on that one.
